Ray was instrumental in establishing our golf club, securing the initial lease, clearing and planting the original fairways and planting the Kauri pines you see around the clubhouse today.

To say he was an accomplished golfer would be an understatement. Ray was 12 time North Qld Amateur Champion from 1940 to 1967. He was 10 time Far Nth Qld Amateur Champion from 1948 to 1973.

Ray represented Qld 12 times, captaining the team in 1951. He made the final16 in the 1954 British Amateur Open and was World Senior Champion in 1958. He played off scratch for an incredible 40 years.

We'd seen less and less of Ray around the club in recent years, as age and illness took their toll, but we all owe him a debt of gratitude for his work and vision in making our golf club what it is today.

Ray passed away on Sunday 25th October aged 96 years.
